How to install PE-FLEX® ventilation ducts into plenum boxes?

1

Before the pipe is inserted into the stub pipe , the pipe end needs to be evenly cut by means with a special knife.

2

Thanks to the stub pipe's inner built-in gasket, there is no need to place a separate gasket on the pipe.

3

The neatly cut ventilation duct needs, to be inserted into the plenum box's stub pipe until a "click" sound is heard!

4

The remaining PE-FLEX® ducts need to be mounted into the plenum box the same way.

Location of plenum boxes and air diffusers

The location of supply air diffusers , should provide ventilation of the rooms in their whole cubic capacity. The air supply can be applied from the floor, ceiling or wall. The most effective way is from the upper area of the room. The extract air diffusers should also be placed in the upper area of the rooms (wall, ceiling). Such location of the supply and extract elements will provide proper air circulation in the room.

lokalizacja anemostatów

Location of the supply air diffusers

  • It is convenient to place the supply air diffuser at a distance from the door and extract air diffusers, so that the whole cubic capacity of the air in the room could take part in the air exchange.
  • Diffusers should not be installed directly above the place where people reside , e.g. above the bed, above the desk, above the sofa, so as not to cause discomfort resulting from the perceptible contact with the blown air (especially in winter)
  • The air diffuser should not be mounted above the furniture, so that the air coming into the room moves freely.

pokoj1 pokoj2

Location of extract air diffusers

  • The extraction air diffusors should be placed close to the poor air sources
  • In order to equalize the supply and exhaust air flow, additionally provide an exhaust system in places that will help in the good organization of the circulating air, such as communication rooms (e.g. hall, staircase)
  • The extraction elements, need to be mounted in accordance with the ventilation system concept
  • The extract air diffuser, should not be placed above the gas/electric cooker. This way, we will avoid having the greasy vapours inside the installation.

Frequently asked questions

How high is a stainless steel plenum box?

The height of manifold and plenum boxes made of stainless steel , equipped with polypropylene muffs depends on the version:

- Ø50 mm boxes are 59 mm high,
- Ø 75 mm boxes are 83 mm high,
- Ø90 mm boxes are 100 mm high,

How high are the polycarbonate plenum boxes?

The height of the body of the boxes made of polycarbonate is 60 mm and this is the total height of the boxes with Ø50 mm muffs . The body in the Ø75 mm boxes is the same, but the connection muffs for PE-FLEX pipes are 88 mm high..

I would like to make plenum boxes under the ventilation grate- is it possible?

It is possible to produce boxes under the ventilation grate. You should then create a box in the BOXMAKER program and additionally send us the exact installation dimensions of the ventilation grate or send the grate itself to the following address: Gdów 685, 32-420 Gdów. After measuring, the grate will be sent back along with the ordered boxes.

I have a 25 cm thick ceiling - do I have to buy an extension for the boxes?

the standard length of the stub pipe in stainless steel plenum boxes is 53 mm, and in polycarbonate boxes 40 mm. The purchase of extensions is therefore required, for quick and convenient installation

How do I fix an extension in a polycarbonate plenum box?

The extension can be mounted by pasting it with silicone or silicone glue. To do this, apply sealing agent to the stub pipe of the nipple box and insert the extension. To strengthen the connection, you can additionally screw in two or three self-drilling screws (so-called sheet metal screws) around the perimeter of the extension, at the level of the stub pipe's nipple box.

Do I have to buy gaskets for the boxes?

Not. All plenum and manifold boxes in the PE-FLEX® offer, have polypropylene muffs with built-in gaskets and CLICK assembly. Additional seals are not required.

Which plenum boxes to buy - stainless steel or polycarbonate?

These boxes can be used interchangeably, without affecting the operation of the ventilation system. Polycarbonate boxes are cheaper, while stainless steel boxes are offered in a wider range. All of them have muffs with a built-in gasket and CLICK assembly.

PE-FLEX® VENTILATION DUCTS

The primary element of the PE-FLEX® ventilation system are the PE-FLEX® ventilation ducts made of the first class PE-HD material. The double layer PE-FLEX® ventilation duct with smooth inside layer, is intended for connecting the distribution boxes with the plenum boxes and for transferring the ventilation air. In order to provide additional protection, the PE-FLEX® ventilation ducts have the inner layer which contains antibacterial, fungicidal and antistatic additivesDucts come in two variants Standard and Spectra 1000.

  • They are made of the high quality PE-HD material, which provides the complete hygiene of installation.
  • Ducts are available in two variants: Standard with biocides up to 60% and Spectra 1000 with almost 100% protection.
  • The outer notches provide flexibility and high durability of the pipe, and its smooth inner layer minimalizes air resistance inside the instalation and enables to clean the ducts.
  • The closed air gaps in the duct circuit, to a great extent suppress the noise caused by the air moving inside and they also provide the thermal isolation.
  • The strength and excellent flexibility of the channels, allow for a very universal distribution of the installation in the house, e.g. by placing pipes in the ceiling insulation layer or in the suspended ceiling.
  • They are available in three diametres - Ø50 mm, Ø75 mm and Ø90 mm.

How to install PE-FLEX® ventilation ducts?

1

Plenum boxes and ventilation ducts are mounted directly on the ceiling .

2

The installation is hidden in the ceiling insulation layer , e.g. styrofoam, which should be at least as thick as the diameter of the duct.

3

It is a good practice to provide a thicker layer of ceiling insulation , in order to cover the whole ventilation installation

4

Underfloor heating can be installed directly above the PE-FLEX® ducts - both installations do not conflict with each other.

5

In order to install the plenum box, a hole in the ceiling needs to be made. From the bottom only the air valve is seen, the whole installation is covered with concrete floor.

AIR HANDLING UNIT

Recuperator(air handling unit) is the central element of the mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. It is a device which forces the air exchange inside the house and is responsible for heat recovery (recuperation) from the extracted air. It removes the polluted air from the house, replacing it with the fresh one. Filtered air from the outside, provides the thermal comfort all year round in all the rooms. The main elements of the MVHR unit are two fans - supply and extraction, and the heat recovery is provided by heat exchanger where two streams of airflow do not blend but recover mutual energy, i.e. heat.

Air handling unit along with PE-FLEX® system of air distribution, is a complete system of mechanical ventilation with heat recovery at home.

icon

Air handling unit installation:

Ducts bringing the air in and out the unit should be as short as possible.

It is necessary to provide access to the unit in order to replace the filters, carry out maintenance and potential repairs.

The air temperature inside the room dedicated to the MVHR unit, should be above 5 Celsius degrees.

The possibility of removing the condensate to the sewage should be taken into account.

The noise from the MVHR unit should be prevented from spreading across the other rooms, by not installing the unit close to the loft ladder, door, etc.

It must be remembered to have a proper cable for the unit controller or to connect the MVHR unit with router (when controlling the unit via internet).

Where to place air inlet and outlet?

Basic rules of how to install air inlet and outlet

  • Air inlets in the ventilation and air conditioning installations, should be protected against rainfall and wind. They should be placed in such a way, which enables to intake the purest and the coolest air in the summer time.
  • The air inlet should not be placed in an area where there is a risk of supplying the air from the air outlet or impuritites from a chimney.
  • Air inlets placed above ground level or on the wall of two lowest floors should be placed at the distance of at least 8 metres at the horizontal projection from the street and parking spaces for more than 20 cars, solid waste collection sites, sewage vents and other sources of air pollution. The distance of the lowest edge of the inlet opening from the ground level should be at least 2 metres.
  • the air intake on the roof of the building, should be located in such a way that the lower edge of the inlet opening is at least 0.4 m above the surface on which they are installed and that a distance of at least 6 m from the sewage outlets is kept.
  • The exhaust air from buildings or rooms, polluted to a degree exceeding the requirements set out in separate provisions on the permissible types and amounts of substances polluting the outside air, should be cleaned before being released into the atmosphere.
  • Air launchers in ventilation and air conditioning systems, should be protected against rainfall and wind, and should be located in places that allow the exhaust air to be discharged without endangering the health of building users and people in its vicinity and exerting a harmful effect on the building.
  • The lower edge of the launcher with a horizontal air outlet, located on the roof of the building, should be at least 0.4 m above the surface on which the launcher is installed, and 0.4 m above the line connecting the highest points of the parts of the building protruding above the roof. at a distance of up to 10 m from the launcher, measured in the horizontal projection.
  • Location of the air launcher at the ground level is allowed only with the consent and under the conditions specified by the competent state sanitary inspector.
  • It is allowed to locate the air release in the wall of the building, provided that:
    - the exhaust air does not contain unpleasant odors and pollutants harmful to health,
    - the opposite wall of the neighbouring building, with windows at a distance of at least 10 m or without windows at a distance of at least 8 m,
    - windows located on the same wall are horizontally located at least 3 m from the launcher, and at least 2 m below or above the launcher,
    - air intake located in the same wall of the building, is below or on the same level as the launcher, at a distance of at least 1.5 m.
  • The distance from the roof vents, measured in the plan view, should not be less than 3 m from:
    - the edge of the roof, below which the windows are located,
    - the nearest edge of the window in the roof,
    - the nearest edge of the window in wall above the roof.

In short

  • Install the air inlet and outlet at least 2 metres from each other (increase the distance to six metres or more if possible).
  • Try to locate the air intake on the side of the building, where there will be less chance of inhaling odors and pollutants.
  • Installing the air intake and launcher in the soffit is a very good idea.
  • The air intake and launcher should be mounted at least two meters above ground level.
  • Do not place the launcher in the immediate vicinity of the window.
  • Remember about access to the grates- it is worth cleaning them from time to time and checking their patency.

Connecting the AHU to the installation

  • The air handling unit (recuperator) should be connected to the ventilation system by means of insulated rigid or flexible ducts
  • Ducts which connect the MVHR unit with air inlet and air outlet, if lead through heated rooms, should contain an additional insulation layer which minimizes heat loss in a room .The same applies to the ducts connected to the distribution boxes when the ducts are in the unheated area.
  • The diameter of the connecting duct should not be too small. If particular segments of the duct are too long, their diameter should be additionally increased. In order to minimize flow resistance, the air inlet/outlet grid diameter should be one size bigger than the spigots of the MVHR unit.
  • Air supply and exhaust ducts should contain dampers. The manifold boxes can be connected via SONODEC CLASSIC flexible ducts. These ducts contain micro-perforated inner layers which acts as a damper.

uwagaCONDENSATION

In case of not using proper duct's insulation, it is possible that condensate can be formed. Such a phenomenon can appear during heating period when the outside air transported through ventilation ducts has considerably lower temperature than the one inside the building.

Frequently asked questions

What should you remember when planning a recuperator installation site??

You must take into account the dimensions of the device to which a service access must be provided (e.g. for periodic replacement of filters). You should also provide a place for connecting ventilation ducts.

It is very important to bring the condensate drain and power supply near the device, as well as the cable connecting the recuperator with the controller located in the residential part of the house (from the controller side it is worth leaving a junction box to facilitate its installation ).

How often do you need to replace the filters in the recuperator?

It depends on many factors, i.e. the location of the building, time of year, and the type of filters used in the recuperator. Usually, filters should be replaced between 3 and 6 months. It's good to take them out of the device from time to time and clean them with a vacuum cleaner.

Can the PE-FLEX® system work with any recuperator?

Yes, virtually any recuperator suitably selected for the size of the installation can be connected to the PE-FLEX® ventilation system.
